Club Training takes place on Saturdays 10am – 12noon and Tuesdays 7-8.00pm in the Winter for the younger athletes, and 8.00pm – 9.00pm for the more able .

Training times in the Summer months are slightly different and all members are notified of the changes. Training continues throughout the year including during school holidays.

Athletes are offered a range of events at each session, and many choose to work on two per session, for example a sprint session plus a throw. Athletes are encouraged to try across the range of runs, jumps and throws to avoid early specialisation. County and National standard athletes are catered for as well as beginners/intermediates.

A third training session is for middle distance/cross country runners and this is geared specifically for this type of event. The session is open to all but an ability to cover the distances run by the group is essential (minimum age 10). Athletes should check with the group coach first. In the summer the group trains on Thursday’s at Shipley Park, and in Winter in Belper.

Younger athletes and newcomers to the club work in the Recreation group, with a regular group of coaches working on the basics of track and field, and Sportshall athletics. The emphasis is on fun and all-round athletics ability, speed and co-ordination. Athletes progress from this group when the coaches feel that they are ready for more advanced activities.
